NORFOLK, Va. -- Head Coach Alan Dawson and the Old Dominion men's soccer program announced their 2023 schedule on Monday with eight home dates on the 16-match slate.
"Our early non-conference games include five away contests which will be a real test for our relatively young squad," said Dawson. "The Sun Belt slate includes exciting home contests with Kentucky, Coastal Carolina, Central Florida and Georgia Southern. Our final home game features a showdown with powerhouse Marshall."
Following a trio of exhibition contests at UNC Wilmington and hosting Richard Bland along with Longwood, the Monarchs will open at home on Thursday, August 24 when the Revolutionaries of George Washington University come to the ODU Soccer Complex.
A five-match road swing will follow the home opener as ODU will visit UMBC (Aug. 28), George Mason (Sept. 4), Radford (Sept. 8), William & Mary (Sept. 12) and ending with the Sun Belt Conference opener at Georgia State on September 16.
The Monarchs return to the home pitch on Tuesday, September 19 with a non-conference matchup as VCU comes to town. Last season the Monarchs took a 4-1 win in Richmond.
ODU will jump into conference play for the remainder of the season starting on Sunday, September 24 when defending Sun Belt Champion Kentucky comes to Norfolk. On September 30, the Monarchs will entertain Coastal Carolina.
October begins with their final non-conference matchup as Campbell comes to Norfolk on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The Monarchs then take a road trip to Columbia, S.C. to tangle with the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, October 7, before hosting new Sun Belt men's soccer member Central Florida on Saturday, October 14.
The Monarchs will head to James Madison for a midweek clash with the Dukes on Wednesday, October 18 before Georgia Southern comes to town on Sunday, October 22.
ODU will end the regular season taking on the state of West Virginia as they'll host the Thundering Herd of Marshall on Friday, October 27, then head to Morgantown to take on West Virginia on Tuesday, October 31.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament begins on campus sites on Sunday, November 5 with the quarterfinals. Semifinal action will be on Wednesday, November 8 and the championship will be on Sunday, November 12.
