NORFOLK, Va. -- The College Sports Communicators (CSC) Men's Tennis Academic All-District team was announced on Tuesday and Codie van Schalkwyk was named as a recipient.
The 2022 Academic All-District® Men's Tennis Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late May. To qualify, a student-athlete had to have at least a 3.5 grade point average and participate in at least 50% of the possible matches.
Van Schalkwyk finished the year with an 18-15 record playing mainly the two and three spots in the lineup. He had non-conference wins over Princeton, VCU, W&M, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Presbyterian, Georgetown, Wisconsin, Charlotte and Auburn. His last three victories were all the clinching points for ODU wins over Troy, Southern Miss and Coastal Carolina.
In doubles he was 11-4 on the year mostly with Jakob Cadonau as that duo went 8-4. They opened the fall winning six of their first eight matches including wins over Michigan State, Princeton, Va. Tech, VCU and Liberty. He is a sophomore from Windhoek, Namibia with a 3.64 GPA in business management.
