NORFOLK, Va.– The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team fell to #8 Florida at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Saturday, 17-5.
Olivia Tanneberger led the Monarchs offensively scoring two goals.
The Monarchs opened the scoring on senior day when Danielle Dundas found the back of the net making it 1-0. Florida didn't take long to respond as they went on to score four goals. ODU (4-13, 0-6) got a goal back when Tanneberger slid a shot across the ground past the keeper. Old Dominion wasn't done there as Sydney Taylor took a pass from Callie Culhane and ripped a shot into the back of the net with 40 seconds to go making it 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The beginning of the second quarter was a defensive battle but after seven minutes Florida (14-3, 5-1) broke through and would go on to score four goals in the quarter and taking an 8-3 lead into halftime.
The Monarchs started the third quarter cutting into the Gator lead when Cullhane found Caroline Shaefer for the goal. That would be the only action for ODU in the quarter as Florida would add six goals to its lead making it 14-4 going into the fourth quarter.
The Gators extended its lead with a goal in the fourth quarter, but ODU responded when Tanneberger fired a shot into the back of the net. The Gators added two more goals for the final 17-5 tally.
