Women's Tennis Open Sun Belt Tournament With 4-0 Win Over Texas State

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The 33rd-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team opened Sun Belt Conference Quarterfinal action on Friday morning with a 4-0 win over ninth-seeded Texas State at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
 
Due to rainy weather Thursday, the matches were postponed and moved indoors to start today as the top-seeded Monarchs took all six singles first sets to get out of the blocks quickly. Allison Isaacs put ODU (16-4) on the board first with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mae McCutcheon at line six. Right behind her was Shahar Biran at line three with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kate Malazonia for a 2-0 ODU advantage.
 
Sofia Johnson quickly followed that win with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at line two over Emily Niers to push the lead to 3-0. Alexandra Viktorovitch answered that win with a 6-2, 6-3 win at line five over Sofia Fortuno for a 4-0 clinch.
 
"I feel very good. We came out engaged and looked focus. Hats off to Texas State, there were points they could've pushed the match a little further, but I thought we played well today, buckled down and got the win," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
 
ODU will now face the winner of App State and Georgia Southern on Saturday in the semifinals at 10 a.m.
 
"Both teams are very good and well coached. App State has been hot down the stretch and Georgia Southern is experienced and has had deep runs in this tournament over the years. We will have to be at our best to be successful and we will do everything we can to be that way," Manilla said.
