Women's Tennis Opens Sun Belt Tournament Thursday

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The 33rd-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team will open play on Thursday in the Sun Belt Conference Championships hosted at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. ODU will take on the winner of Wednesday's Troy-Texas State match at 10 a.m.

Scouting ODU
Old Dominion (15-4) enters the tournament on a 10-match winning streak with seven of those being by shutout. The Monarchs blanked App State 7-0 on Senior Day last Saturday as Tatsiana Sasnouskaya finished the match with a three-set win at line one. Shahar Biran and Alexandra Viktorovitch have a team high 12 wins this spring, while Sasnouskaya (11), Sofia Johnson (10) and Alesya Yakubovich (10) trail. In doubles, Sasnouskaya and Johnson are ranked 40th nationally and have an 11-2 mark this spring.
 
Scouting Texas State
Old Dominion defeated Texas State 4-3 in the opening weekend of conference play, marking the closest match against a league opponent. Kiana Graham leads the team this year in singles with an 18-13 record, while Sofia Fortuno is next with a 16-9 record. In doubles, Kate Malazonia and Mae McCutcheon have seven wins this year to lead Texas State (7-14).
 
Scouting Troy
ODU didn't face Troy (13-7) in the regular season. The Trojans had won five in a row before falling in their last two regular season matches. Maria Guirguis leads the team in singles wins with an 18-8 record, while Hagar Amin (17-12) is right behind. In doubles, Amin and Kristina Kukaras have a team best 10-5 record.
 
All-Conference Honors
The women's all-conference team was announced on Tuesday and ODU came away with five honors. Dominic Manilla was named Coach of the Year, while Tatsiana Sasnouskaya was named Player of the Year. Sasnouskaya and Sofia Johnson were each named first team in singles and as a duo they earned first team doubles honors.
