NORFOLK, Va. - The 24th-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team swept ULM on Sunday 7-0 in a Sun Belt Conference match at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
"Overall a strong showing by the Monarchs this weekend. The team is performing well at every position and we are looking forward to a tough JMU team at home on Saturday," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
In doubles, the Monarchs took the team point with wins at lines two and three. Alesya Yakubovich and Shahar Biran recorded their second 6-0 win of the weekend at line two, while Sofia Johnson and Mya Byrd clinched the point with a 6-4 win at line three.
Singles saw ODU (12-4, 7-0) get on the board first at line six as Mya Byrd defeated Tamara Bachmann 6-0, 6-1 to lead 2-0. Shahar Biran recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over Oleksandra Balaba at line two to take the advantage to 3-0. Alexandra Viktorovitch clinched the dual win.
Yakubovich quickly followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win at line three over Alice Klinteby and Johnson won a third-set tiebreaker to take a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) win at line one for a 6-0 lead.
Allison Isaacs finished the sweep for ODU with a 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (10-4) win at line five in a match that took over two and a half hours.
ODU now hosts JMU on Saturday at 1 p.m.
