NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Women's lacrosse (3-5) team fell to the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday, 20-7. Moira Olexa led the Monarchs offensively scoring three goals.
The Monarchs took the lead 30 seconds into the game when Olexa ripped a shot into the back of the net. That would be the only time the Monarchs led on the day as Richmond would score seven unanswered goals to end the first quarter.
Starting the second quarter Richmond made it an 8-1 game with a goal. ODU answered with two goals from Olexa to make it 8-3. The Spiders took a 9-3 lead before Molly May scored on a pass from Sydney Taylor. Two Minutes later Olivia Tanneberger took a pass from Taylor and found the back of the net. Richmond scored making it 10-5 with 36 seconds left in the half, ODU trimmed the lead when May scored with eight seconds left making the score 10-6 at the half.
The second half was dominated by the Spiders as they added seven goals in the third quarter. Katie McGrain would score the lone goal for the Monarchs in the fourth quarter making it 18-7, Richmond would add two more goals and held on to win 20-7.
The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday, Mar. 11 at 12 p.m. when they host Furman at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
