Women's Tennis Blanks Defending Sun Belt Champ South Alabama 4-0

NORFOLK, Va. – The 23^rd-ranked Old Dominion Monarchs rallied to take the doubles point and won the first three matches in singles to take a 4-0 win over the defending Sun Belt Conference champions on Saturday morning.
 
"We did a great job handling a tough, windy outdoor match," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla. "We gutted that doubles out and then went to work in singles. I am very proud of how we composed ourselves today for a great win."
 
In doubles, ODU (9-4, 4-0) won the first match as Tatsiana Sasnouskaya and Sofia Johnson scored a 6-3 win at line one. South Alabama (12-2, 2-1) took line two with a 6-4 win to even the doubles point. At line three, Alexandra Viktorovitch and Mya Byrd rallied from a 5-1 deficit to win 7-5 and give ODU the 1-0 advantage.
 
Singles saw ODU win three matches in rapid succession to clinch the dual. Viktorovitch got the first point winning 6-4, 6-0 at line five, with Alesya Yakubovich following right after with a 6-2, 6-0 win at line four for a 3-0 ODU lead. Sasnouskaya ended the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at line one for the 4-0 ODU win.
 
The Monarchs are back on the court Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. facing Southern Miss at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
