Old Dominion Lacrosse Holds On To Beat Mount Saint Mary's 8-7 On Wednesday

NORFOLK, Va. –  The Old Dominion Women's lacrosse (4-6) team got back in the win column on Wednesday beating Mount Saint Mary's 8-7 at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. Danielle Dundas led the Monarchs with four goals.  

  

ODU started out fast when Caroline Shaefer found the back of the net making it 1-0. Old Dominion extended its lead as Dundas ripped a shot into the goal. Shortly after Sydney Taylor found a cutting Jessica Pisani to give ODU a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter. Mount Saint Mary's would get on the board with just under two minutes left in the first quarter but would enter the second quarter trailing 3-1. 

  

The Monarchs increased its lead back to three after Taylor would fire a shot past the Mountaineers' keeper but that would be all the scoring for ODU in the quarter. Mount Saint Mary's would go on to score four goals in the second quarter and take a 5-4 lead into halftime.  

  

The third quarter was dominated by ODU. Dundas tied the game and Shaefer would follow up that goal giving the Monarchs a 6-5 lead. Old Dominion wasn't done as Pisani found Dundas for her third goal of the game and extended the lead to 7-5 at the end of third quarter.  

  

The Monarchs defense stayed strong in the second half and gave Dundas the opportunity to score her fourth goal of the day making in 8-5. The Mountaineers scored its first goal of the second half with just over two minutes left in the game and immediately followed that with another goal with 1:30 left in the contest. Old Dominion tried to run the clock out, but the Mountaineers drew a charge and took over possession. With 18 seconds remaining in the game Mount Saint Mary's leading scorer Dani Donoghue would take the potential game tying shot but Jenna Peccia made her 10th save of the day to secure the victory. 

  

Old Dominion is back in action on Saturday, Mar. 15 as they open American Athletic Conference play when they host the East Carolina Pirates at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex starting at 1 p.m.
