Women's Tennis Sweeps Opening Sun Belt Conference Weekend With 4-3 Win At Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The 24th-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team finished a 2-0 weekend of Sun Belt Conference action taking a 4-3 win over Texas State on Sunday morning.
 
Playing through illness on its opening weekend of Sun Belt Conference play, the Monarchs took the team point after winning at line one and three. Mya Byrd and Sofia Johnson earned the first doubles win at line three with a 6-3 victory. Allison Isaacs and Alexandra Viktorovitch clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win.
 
Singles saw the Bobcats take a 2-1 lead after wins at the one and six spots. ODU (7-4, 2-0) took three straight wins to claim the dual victory. Shahar Biran evened the dual match with a 6-2, 6-4 win at line two over Emily Niers and immediately following Viktorovitch garnered a 6-3, 6-3 win at line four over Mae McCutcheon as ODU took a 3-2 lead.
 
Alesya Yakubovich had the clincher with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Kate Malazonia at line three.
 
"Hats off to Texas State for taking the match the distance. Overall, it was a great first weekend of Sun Belt Conference play for us. We learned a lot," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
 
The Monarchs now visit Marshall on Friday for a 2 p.m. match.
