ODU Lacrosse Dominates Longwood 18-10 On Wednesday

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Women's Lacrosse team improved to 3-3 on the year after an 18-10 win over Longwood Wednesday night. Sydney Taylor led the Monarchs offensively scoring four goals. 
 
Longwood got the scoring going in the first quarter when Riley McDonald found the back of the net. Moira Olexa tied the game with her loan goal of the day before Longwood took the lead back. Danielle Dundas scored her first of three goals on the day to even the game up before Taylor gave the Monarchs the lead. Dundas followed Taylor's goal with another goal giving ODU a 4-2 advantage. The Lancers got a goal back and the first quarter ended 4-3. 
 
ODU extended its lead to start the second quarter when Taylor scored her second goal. Longwood went on to score two goals and tie the game at five. Molly May gave the Monarchs the lead right back with her first goal of the season and Callie Culhane would extend the lead with eight seconds left in the half as ODU took a 7-5 lead into the second half. 
 
The Monarchs started the third quarter with a Taylor goal and Olivia Tanneberger followed it up with her first of two goals in the third quarter. Longwood cut into the lead with a goal before Dundas answered giving ODU a 10-6 lead. The Lancers ended up cutting the Monarch lead to three with a goal before May and Tanneberger each scored their second goals of the game. 
 
Entering the fourth quarter Longwood trailed 12-7, the Lancers would score first in the quarter before May would find Payton Kisling cutting for a goal. Dundas extended the lead when she found Jessica Pisani for her first goal of the year giving the Monarchs a 14-8 lead. Longwood scored their final two goals making it a 14-10 game but it proved to be too much to overcome. The Monarchs scored four more goals from Caroline Shaefer, Kate Stigsell scored her first career goal and Taylor and Jeslyn Krebs followed up with two more goals giving ODU the 18-10 win.
 
The Monarchs are back in action Saturday, Mar. 4 at Campbell for a game starting at noon.
