WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- For the second time in eight days, the Old Dominion women's tennis team used a trio of three-set match wins to defeat Wake Forest 5-2 on Sunday.
In doubles, the Monarchs scored the team point with wins at the top two spots. Tatsiana Sasnouskaya and Sofia Johnson started with a bang knocking off the 12th-ranked doubles tandem of Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth in a 6-0 win. ODU (4-1) took the team point with its 52nd-ranked duo of Allison Isaacs and Alexandra Viktorovitch winning 6-3 over Mia Ahmad and Casie Wooten at number two.
The Monarchs took a 2-0 lead after one match of singles as Viktorovitch took a 6-3, 6-1 win at line five before Wake Forest (2-3) evened the match with wins at the top two singles spots.
Unlike in the meeting last week when the Monarchs won three three-set matches at the top three spots, this time the Monarchs won three-set matches at the three, four and six spots.
Shahar Biran gave ODU a 3-2 lead with a 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 6-1 win over Brooke Killingsworth at three. Freshman Allison Isaacs clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Maddie Lynch at the six spot. Senior Alesya Yakubovich finished off the 5-2 win with a 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 7-5 win at the four spot.
"Awesome team performance today. Both teams were better than last week and I couldn't be more pleased to have come away with a strong 5-2 team victory," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla. "We are looking and feeling strong going into a very tough home stretch. We are eager to play at home in front of Monarch Nation and will need all hands on deck. Go Monarchs!"
