ORLANDO, Fla. – The Old Dominion women's golf team begins its spring season this Sunday through Tuesday, Feb. 5-7 at the UCF Challenge.
The Knights are hosting the Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club, a par 72 course in Orlando, Florida with a total of 6,379 yards.
The 18-team field will also feature lineups from the College of Charleston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kent State, Kentucky, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Mississippi State, North Florida, North Texas, Northwestern, Penn State, Texas A&M, UNCW, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Five of the teams are also ranked in the Top 25 by GolfStat: Wake Forest leads the way at No. 2, Texas A&M is listed at No. 6, Mississippi State is ranked 11th, Kent State is 20th, and Iowa State is 23rd.
For Sunday's opening round, ODU is scheduled to tee off from the 10th hole between 9:15 – 9:51 a.m. Monday's second round will feature an 8:30 a.m. start off of the first and 10th holes, and Tuesday's final round will commence with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. This is the seventh consecutive spring season that the Monarchs will have participated in the UCF Challenge. ODU's best finish at the tournament was in 2019 when the Monarchs recorded an 11-under par 853 to come in fourth out of 16 teams. Charlotte De Corte finished in a tie for fifth place at seven-under 70 and Jana Melichova tied for 12th at four-under 68. Melichova was the sole representative for the Monarchs in 2021, and she compiled a three-round total of 234 (+18) to tie for 79th.
ODU competed in four tournaments this past fall. The Monarchs started off by tying for second at the Badger Invitational on Sept. 18-20 and earned a runner-up finish at the Lady Paladin Invitational on Sept. 23-25. The team then hosted the Evie Odom Invitational at Princess Anne Country Club on Sept. 29-Oct. 2, placing 11th. ODU rounded out its fall slate with a fifth-place finish at The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State on Oct. 17-18.
