Brindley Honored with Prestigious Herreshoff Trophy

NORFOLK, Va. – If his legacy wasn't already cemented in the sport of sailing, it was Thursday night when Old Dominion Sailing Head Coach Mitch Brindley was given the Nathanael G. Herreshoff Trophy. The trophy is the most prestigious award in US Sailing and given to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the sport of sailing.
 
Inducted into the ICSA (Intercollegiate Sailing Association) Hall of Fame in 2018, Brindley is in his 28th season as head coach of the ODU program and has countless accolades on his resume. Brindley has won 10 national championships at Old Dominion, including seven has head coach, one as an assistant and two as a Monarch sailor.
 
Brindley has guided 70 student-athletes at Old Dominion to All-American honors, two female Sailors of the Year and an ICSA Sportsmen of the Year.  He was also the personal coach for Olympic Gold Medalist, Anna Tunnicliffe. He has coached eight sailors that have been inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame.
