Men's Tennis Takes 6-1 Win Over Charlotte

NORFOLK, Va. – In a nationally-ranked battle between former conference rivals, the 62^nd-ranked Old Dominion men's tennis team took four three-set victories in singles to propel them to a 6-1 win over 60^th-ranked Charlotte outside at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
 
In doubles, the Monarchs took wins at the two and three spots to earn the team point. Francois Le Tallec and Cosme Rolland De Ravel won 6-2 at line three, while Younes Lalami and Luca Maldoner won 6-4 at line two to put ODU (7-4) ahead 1-0.
 
Singles started off as Codie van Schalkwyk took a 6-3, 6-3 win at line three over Abhimanyu Vannemreddy for a 2-0 advantage. Le Tallec began the three-set run for the Monarchs with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Matias Iturbe at line two for a 3-0 lead.
 
Rolland De Ravel earned the clincher for ODU with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over Ivan Dreycopp at line four as ODU took a 4-0 lead. Following a three-set win by Charlotte at line one, the Monarchs finished it off with wins by Cadonau at line five (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) and Maldoner at line six (2-6, 7-5, 6-4).
 
"Baby steps but we are making slow progress. I think we carried some of the momentum from last weekend into today's match," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller. "I was pleased to see our guys starting the finals sets with several breaks and I think you could see that we wanted it a little more down the stretch. We have got to bring that all the time." 
 
ODU now hosts St. John's on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
