Women's Tennis Hosts Iowa State and Florida State This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's tennis team returns home this weekend for two big matchups with a pair of Power Five schools inside the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
 
On Saturday morning, the Monarchs will host sixth-ranked Iowa State at 11 a.m. The next morning at 10 a.m., ODU will play host to Florida State.

The Monarchs enter the weekend after a nearly two-week break from when they defeated Wake Forest 5-2 on February 5. ODU has recorded wins over Penn State (5-2), Columbia (4-0), and a pair over Wake Forest (4-3/5-2), while losing to Ohio State (4-0).
 
ODU has two singles players and one doubles tandem in the latest ITA National Rankings as Tatsiana Sasnouskaya is 25th and Shahar Biran is ranked #124 in singles. In doubles, the pairing of Sasnouskaya and Sofia Johnson are currently 24th.
 
In duals so far, Biran leads the team with a 4-0 record, while freshman Allison Isaacs is 3-1. In doubles, Johnson and Sasnouskaya are 4-1 at the top spot.
 
Iowa State (8-2) moved up eight spots in the latest ITA Coaches Poll announced on Wednesday and are currently tied for sixth with Ohio State. The Cyclones went 2-1 last weekend in the ITA Indoor Nationals and included a 4-1 win over previously top-ranked Texas. Iowa State is a battle tested team with a 4-2 record against top 20 ranked opponents so far.
 
The Cyclones have three singles players in the latest national rankings topped by Thasaporn Naklo at #42 and Ange Oby Kajuru at #53. In doubles, they have three tandems ranked in the top 55 highlighted by Kajuru and Chie Kezuka at #23, along with Misa Kadleckova and Kajuru at #49,
 
Florida State (5-2) enters after a 4-1 loss to Florida last weekend. The Seminoles have one singles player in the current national rankings with Anna Arkadianou coming in at 78th. In dual matches thus far, Vic Allen and Ellie Schoppe lead the Seminoles with 4-2 records.

It should be a solid weekend of tennis. We hope to attract a great crowd to see some of the nations best tennis on display this weekend at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.  We've had a good week of preparation leading up to this weekend and we are hungry to play hard at home.
