NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion men's basketball junior guard Mekhi Long was named on Tuesday as the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the week ending January 28.
In two road wins for the Monarchs, Long averaged 15 points and 16 rebounds while hitting 50% from the floor. He started the road trip with 11 points and a then career-high tying 13 rebounds as Old Dominion defeated South Alabama as he hit a free throw with five seconds left for the 66-64 margin. Two days later, he went off for 19 points and a new career-high 19 rebounds in a 60-59 ODU win at Coastal Carolina. He recorded a double-double in the second half with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
On the season, he is averaging 9.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. This is the second Player of the Week award for ODU this year as Tyreek Scott-Grayson won in December.
The Monarchs are home this week starting on Thursday night hosting James Madison at 7 p.m.
