NORFOLK, VA. – Head Coach Theresa Walton announced on Thursday that Lilly Siskind and Katie McGrain will be the 2023 Old Dominion Women's Lacrosse captains this year.
"We are beyond excited to officially announce Katie and Lilly as our Captains for this upcoming Spring season. This comes with an overwhelming amount of appreciation for both McGrain and Siskind because of their leadership qualities they display on a daily basis. Katie's energy and communication set the tone every single day," said Walton. "Lilly leads by example in everything she does with determination that is second to none. Together, McGrain and Siskind set a standard in their work ethic and commitment that our entire team can get behind in pursuit of our goals this season. We can't wait to see where our leadership takes us this Spring!"
Siskind started in all 17 games for the Monarchs leading the team in points (77), goals (57) and assists (20). She earned a spot on the All-American Athletic Conference first team. Siskind ranks in the top 10 in three categories for ODU single season records, her 77 points tied for fourth most, while the 57 goals were third most and the 20 assists were 10th most.
"What I'm most excited about this season is for our fans and other teams to see a completely different ODU Lacrosse team than they did last year. We spent the fall building our craft, strengthening our confidence, and competing at our highest ability daily," said Siskind. "As a team we are in a position to prove ourselves. Without telling you all our secrets, there is one that is for sure… our team has a chip on our shoulders. We are hungry and ready to shake things up come February 11th and throughout the duration of the spring season!"
McGrain just as Siskind started all 17 games last year for ODU. She helped with the team defensively as she racked up 14 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers as well as winning one draw control.
"I couldn't be more excited for this season with this team and staff! We had a great fall season full of hard work and great competition that has prepared us for this spring, and our team has the confidence we need to reach our ultimate goal in May," said McGrain. "We have a great schedule that will continue to prepare us, and we are looking forward to being the underdogs this season. We are all counting down the days until we get to put our jerseys on and compete, and we can't wait to unveil the new era of ODU lacrosse come February 11th!"
Old Dominion Lacrosse opens their 2023 campaign on Saurday, February 11 when they travel to Elon for a matchup starting at noon.
