Men's Basketball Returns Home To Face Georgia State And App State This Week

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's basketball team will return to the home floor of Chartway Arena for a pair of games starting on Thursday night as they'll host Georgia State at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Mountaineers of App State come to Norfolk for a 7 p.m. tip.
 
The matchup with Georgia State will be the 24th all-time meeting between the schools. Old Dominion holds a 17-6 lead in the all-time series as the teams have alternated wins the last four meetings. ODU has won the last two at home, including the last meeting 58-46 in the 2016-17 season.
 
Saturday's meeting with App State will be the first-ever meeting between the schools.

Both games will be streamed on ESPN+. Scott Jackson and Billy Mann will have the call both nights starting at 7 p.m.
 
ESPN Radio 94.1FM will have the radio broadcast both days with Ted Alexander and Dave Twardzik on the call starting at 6:30 p.m. with the Toyota Pregame Show.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Chaunce Jenkins scored 23 points going 8-for-11 from the field to lead three in double figures as Old Dominion fell 73-65 at Marshall on Saturday night. Mekhi Long recorded his fourth double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyreek Scott-Grayson added 10 points and four assists. The Monarchs hit 52% from the field in the game (25-of-48) and 50% from the 3-point line (5-of-10).
 
Ja'Heim Hudson scored 26 points to lead five in double figures for Georgia State on Saturday as they defeated Coastal Carolina 100-66 in Atlanta. The Panthers shot 63.8% from the field (37-of-58) and 57.1% from 3-point range (16-of-28) in the win. Brenden Tucker added 19 points, Jamaine Mann chipped in 16, Dwon Odom had a double-double with 16 points and 11 assists off the bench, while Kalik Brooks also came off the bench with 10 points.
 
App State used a stellar defensive effort on Saturday in defeating Troy 58-45 in Boone, N.C. The Mountaineers allowed the fewest points in a league game since 2015 in securing the 13-point win over a Troy squad that was in a share of first-place coming into the contest. Terence Harcum paced App State with 15 points, while Donovan Gregory added 13 in the win.

The Monarchs have four players averaging in double figures with Scott-Grayson leading the charge at 14.4 points per game. He is also second on the team in assists (49), steals (20) and third in rebounds per game (5.1 rpg). Joining him in double figures are Chaunce Jenkins (13.4 ppg), Ben Stanley (10.4 ppg) and Mekhi Long (10.1 ppg). Jenkins is leading the team in assists (53) and third in blocked shots (10), while Long leads the team in rebounding (7.8 rpg) and steals (25).

The Panthers also have four players averaging in double figures with Odom leading at 14.6 points per game. He also leads the team in steals (21) and assists (65), while second in rebounding (4.9 rpg) and blocks (14). Joining him is Tucker (12.8 ppg), Hudson (11.1 ppg) and Jamaine Mann (10.1 ppg). Hudson leads in rebounding (7.3 rpg) and blocked shots (19). Evan Johnson leads the Panthers in 3-pointers with 24, while Kalik Brooks and Tucker are next with 18.
 
ABOUT APP STATE    
The Mountaineers are paced by Tyree Boykin who averages 11.9 points per game, while Donovan Gregory adds 11.7 points and a team high 75 assists to go with a team-best 28 steals. Boykin also leads the team in 3-pointers with 40, while Christopher Mantis is next with 27. They are a balanced squad as five players also average from six to nine points per contest. CJ Huntley leads them in rebounding (6.5 rpg) with Justin Abson behind him at 5.2 per game. Abson also leads the team in blocked shots (39).
