NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference released its 2022 Volleyball Tournament bracket on Saturday afternoon and Old Dominion volleyball has earned the number three seed out of the league's East Division. In its third season as a program, ODU will be making its first appearance in a conference tournament.
For the third year in a row, the Sun Belt Volleyball Tournament will be held at the Foley Events Center in Foley, Alabama on Nov. 16-20. All 13 matches of the championship will be streamed on ESPN+.
Tickets may be purchased online through the Foley Sports Tourism Box Office. Tickets are sold on a daily basis and are $10 per day for adults and $5 per day for children ages 12 and under. Students of Sun Belt Conference institutions are admitted free with a valid student ID.
The 2022 bracket was determined by winning percentage against divisional foes only. The top-two seeds on both the East and West sides earn automatic byes to the quarterfinal round.
The Monarchs (12-15, 7-7 Sun Belt) finished the regular season with a conference series split against Southern Miss this week. After ending up on the wrong end of a 3-2 final on Thursday night, ODU celebrated Senior Day with a four-set victory over the Golden Eagles on Friday night.
ODU will open the tournament with a 1 p.m. EST second-round match next Thursday, Nov. 17. The Monarchs await the winner of a first-round match between sixth-seeded Arkansas State and seventh-seeded Georgia State. Thursday's victor will earn the right to play Troy, the number two seed out of the West, in a 1 p.m. EST quarterfinal on Friday, Nov. 18.
James Madison claimed its first-ever Sun Belt Conference regular-season championship, finishing league play with a 15-1 mark and boasting a 21-4 record overall. The Dukes were a perfect 12-0 against divisional opponents to claim the top spot in the Sun Belt East.
Texas State secured the West Division's top seed by posting a 14-2 record against Sun Belt opposition and an 11-1 tally against divisional foes. The Bobcats are 22-6 overall and have posted three wins this season against Autonomy 5 opponents.
The Championship final is scheduled for a 2 p.m. EST first serve on Sunday, Nov. 20 with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Championship Tournament.
