Newark, Del. – The No. 13 Old Dominion Field Hockey team extended their win streak to four on Sunday, the Monarchs (9-2, 3-1) dominated Delaware 5-1. Marlon de Bruijne scored two goals in the victory.

Old Dominion got on the board quick as Sacha De Gier scored just 46 seconds into the match. The Monarchs would then extend their lead in the second quarter with two goals from de Bruijne. Her first goal of the quarter came 18 seconds into it as Frederique Zandbergen and Rina Tsioles assisted de Bruijne on a penalty quarter. Her second goal of the quarter came just five minutes later as she found the back of the net. ODU went into the half with a 3-0 lead outshooting Delaware 6-3.

The Monarchs continued to put pressure on the Blue Hens as Courtney Lynch added a goal of her own just five minutes into the third quarter. Two minutes later Delaware scored their only goal of the match as Berber Bakermans assisted Emma Miller for the goal. ODU responded with their fifth and final goal of the match when Sacha De Gier aided Sanci Molkenboer for the goal.

"That was a strong win over a good team this afternoon.  We played effectively and played together, and really controlled the flow of the game from the start. Our attacking play was dangerous on both sides, and we could have scored more. Defensively we can still tighten up, but Cam was fantastic in goal again, including an extraordinary penalty stroke save with her stick at full extension," said head coach Andrew Griffiths. "Marlon scored two powerful goals, so things are coming together step by step. The best thing about the win is that we didn't play perfectly, but we played together, which always feels great when you walk off the field."

Delaware outshot Old Dominion in the match 16-11.

ODU will be back in action Friday, Oct. 14 as they host Providence.
