NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion volleyball will head across the state for a Sun Belt series at James Madison this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7-8 at Sinclair Gymnasium. Friday's match will be streamed on ESPN+ and is scheduled for a 6 p.m. EST start. The teams will then meet again at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with fans also able to listen to the match through The Varsity Network app.

This weekend marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs. ODU was scheduled for a Sun Belt series at Georgia Southern last Friday and Saturday, but the matches were canceled due to Hurricane Ian.

About ODU
After a 3-1 victory over Marshall on Sept. 22 to start conference play, the Monarchs (7-8, 2-0 Sun Belt) earned a 3-0 win over The Herd on Sept. 23. With the victory, ODU evened the all-time series at 3-3. It also marked the first time in program history the Monarchs have started conference play 2-0.
 
Teresa Atilano was named the Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Week on Sept. 27. It marked her second career weekly honor. The San Diego, California native finished ODU's conference-opening series with 84 assists, nine kills, four service aces, 17 digs, three blocks and 14.5 points. Her effort on the court also helped the Monarchs to a league-best .320 hitting percentage for the week.
 
Myah Conway continues to pace the ODU attack with team highs in points (197.5) and kills (163). Ashley Peroe is next with 103 kills, Tessa Mati owns 92 kills, and Bailey Burgess is right behind her with 90 kills. Atilano is up to 456 assists this season and needs 65 to reach 2,000 for her career. She's served a team-best 25 aces, Jamie Bissmeyer is second on the team with 15 aces, and Burgess is third with 13. Bissmeyer has dug 191 balls while Burgess and Conway have recorded 49 and 46 blocks, respectively.
 
As a team ODU enters the weekend ranked third in the league and 50th nationally with 1.79 aces per set. Atilano is currently fourth in the Sun Belt in service aces and fifth in aces per set (0.45).
 
About James Madison
The Dukes (9-4, 3-1 Sun Belt) opened conference play with a pair of 3-0 wins over Appalachian State on Sept. 23-24. JMU then went to San Marcos, Texas last weekend and split its Sun Belt series with Texas State. JMU won Friday's meeting in five sets but fell to the host Bobcats 3-1 on Saturday.
 
Miëtte Veldman is JMU's leader in points (214.5) and kills (190). Sophie Davis sits second on the team with 126 kills while Brenya Reid and Danielle Nathan have combined for 141 kills. Setter Caroline Dozier is at 404 assists and Madilyn O'Toole is the team's best server with 21 aces. Jaydyn Clemmer leads the back row with 167 digs and Davis has registered 65 blocks.
 
JMU leads the Sun Belt and ranks 21st in the country with 2.63 blocks per set. The Dukes are also second in the league and 34th nationally with a .260 hitting percentage. Davis is the conference leader with 1.33 blocks per set.
 
Up Next
ODU will host Coastal Carolina for two matches on Oct. 14-15. The teams will open the conference series with a 6:30 p.m. match on Friday, then play again at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Friday's contest will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available for both matches. It will mark the first time the two programs have met.
