NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference announced its 2022 Women's Soccer postseason awards on Monday afternoon and a pair of ODU standouts earned first team All-Conference honors.
Carla Morich and Ece Turkoglu were recognized in a vote of the league's head coaches with first team honors. This marks the third all-conference honor for Morich and the fourth for Turkoglu.
"We as a staff and team are delighted for Carla and Ece that the conference coaches have recognized the quality they have and the impact they have made in the league this year," said ODU head coach Angie Hind.
Turkoglu was one of the captains this year and has started every game amassing over 1,300 minutes. A talented midfielder with the ability to make ODU tick, but she is also fantastic in the air and defensively is one of the key cogs on the team. Turkoglu has scored two goals this season against Richmond and Coastal Carolina, while she had an assist in the win over Marshall last week. Turkoglu was recognized by C-USA in 2019 and was a first-team honoree in 2020 and 2021.
"Ece's performances have been at such a high level this year and her consistency impressive. She just brings so much composure to our play but also her work rate and defensive attributes in midfield are things that you can't measure in stats," Hind said.
Morich is a fifth-year senior who has scored some huge goals for ODU this season. She tallied twice against West Division leader South Alabama for a draw, two more against Coastal Carolina including the game winner and the game-winner at Georgia State. She has played in every game and played over 1,100 minutes on the year. In addition to the two goals against Coastal Carolina, she added an assist in the contest. Morich was recognized by C-USA in 2018 and in 2021.
"Carla has scored some great goals for us this year and even more so has brought much to our style of play and attack. She worked tirelessly up top for her teammates and I'm thrilled she has been recognized," added Hind.
The Monarchs are the six-seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament which begins on Monday afternoon with a pair of first round matchups. ODU will take on Arkansas State on Wednesday at noon in the opening quarterfinal. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ from Foley, Alabama.
