LAFAYETTE, La. – Old Dominion volleyball nearly overcame an 11-1 deficit to start the fourth set, but the Monarchs fell 3-1 at Louisiana on Thursday night inside Earl K. Long Gym.

Myah Conway turned in a 22-kill, 13-dig double-double to lead the Monarchs (8-12, 3-4 Sun Belt) in the loss. Hailey Duncan and Ashley Peroe both finished with eight kills each, and Bailey Burgess was right behind them with seven kills while also serving three aces. Teresa Atilano and Ashlynn Belcher tallied 30 and 12 assists, respectively. Duncan led ODU at the net with three blocks and Peroe contributed two, and Anna Burkhardt also reached double-digit digs with 12.
The opening set featured 19 ties and 11 changes. Down 22-20, Atilano set up Peroe for a kill before Burgess followed with a service ace to knot the set at 22-22. Peroe then recorded a solo block to put the Monarchs in front. The teams then traded points before the Ragin' Cajuns (10-8, 4-5 Sun Belt) pulled even at 25-25. The hosts then committed a service error and an attack error to give ODU the set at 27-25.
Louisiana used a 5-0 run in the middle of the second set to extend its lead to 19-11 and held on for a 25-17 tally. The home team then built a 19-11 advantage in the third set and withstood a 5-0 response by ODU, claiming another set at 25-20.
ODU dug itself an 11-1 hole to begin Set Four. The Monarchs continued to chip away at the Louisiana lead, though. A Duncan kill and three consecutive attack errors by the Ragin' Cajuns gave the Monarchs new life as they got back to within 22-20. Camilla Tamburini put away a ball from Belcher and a ULL attack error cut the deficit to 24-23, but the hosts secured the match point for a 25-23 decision.
