NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University Sailing freshman Emma Friedauer qualified for the Women's Singlehanded National Championships to be held at Old Dominion on November 5-6.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Friedauer earned an at-large berth to the national championships. She placed sixth at the Faye Bennet Women's Singles event. Friedauer finished just one point behind fifth place Alex Shea of Georgetown, who also earned a bid to the national championship.
Friedauer is the first women's sailor to compete at the Fall singlehanded national championships since current ODU assistant coach Morgan Collins (Wilson) qualified in 2010. Elizabeth Gildea and Bridget Groble compete in the singlehanded national championship in the spring of 2021. That championship was moved from the fall to the spring due to COVID-19.
