NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion volleyball fell in four sets to visiting Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the ODU Volleyball Center. With the loss, the Monarchs split this weekend's Sun Belt meeting with the Chanticleers.

"Going 1-1 against Coastal is another step forward for our program," said head coach Fred Chao. "Today's result was disappointing, but we held up as a team. The players did a great job maintaining their composure and fought hard. We weren't consistent enough from the service line to cluster enough points, and we gave up too many passing and digging errors at inopportune times. But we stood up well in the rallies and battled. I am proud of our team for that."

CCU 3, ODU 1
Myah Conway finished with 16 kills while hitting for .324 in the loss. Hailey Duncan scored nine of her attacks, Bailey Burgess was next with eight kills and Teresa Atilano contributed seven. Atilano also added 37 assists to her totals and Anna Burkhardt served two aces with 13 digs and seven assists. At the net, Burgess led the Monarchs (8-11, 3-3 Sun Belt) with five blocks, Tesa Matti made three blocks, and Conway and Duncan had two each.

In the first set, a block by Duncan and Atilano and a kill from Mati gave ODU an early 8-6 lead over the Chanticleers (15-6, 7-1 Sun Belt). CCU then jumped ahead 12-0 with a 5-0 run. Another four unanswered points for the visitors put them up 20-13, and the Chants won the set with a 25-16 total. The second set saw CCU pull away 16-9 with another 5-0 push. An Ashlyn Belcher service ace capped off a 5-0 response as ODU pulled to within 19-17, but Coastal took another set at 25-20.

The Monarchs led the third set from start to finish. An Ashley Peroe kill opened up a 6-1 swing as ODU increased its lead to 19-9. Coastal fought back to within 22-16, but the next three points went to the Monarchs.

Set Four remained close until CCU put together three points in a row for a 19-15 advantage. Kills from Duncan and Atilano and an ace by Burkhardt cut the Chants' lead to 21-19, but Coastal held on for a 25-21 final.
