NORFOLK, Va. – Visiting Georgia Southern scored off a header by Elis Nemtsov with just under seven minutes left as the Eagles defeated Old Dominion 1-0 on a warm Sunday afternoon at the ODU Soccer Complex.
The first half saw Old Dominion with opportunities to put themselves ahead, but couldn't put one past goalkeeper Michaela Mikko who made four saves in the first half.
Old Dominion had a flurry in the second half drawing three straight corner kick chances, though a tough backline from Georgia Southern stopped those opportunities.
In the 84th minute, a free kick bounced past the Monarchs and Nemtsov found herself with the shot and goal for Georgia Southern.
For the game, ODU outshot the Eagles 12-7 and had five corner kicks to two for the guests.
Old Dominion (3-6-1, 1-2-0) returns to action on October 2 hosting South Alabama at 3 p.m.
