BALTIMORE, Md. -- Kelan Swales took a crossing pass from Jordy Luchies in the 61st minute and the hosts made it stand as Loyola defeated Old Dominion 1-0 in men's soccer on Friday night.
"I thought we deserved a result in a tough fought road game," said ODU Head Coach Alan Dawson. "We feel like we are getting better every game so we must keep the faith."
A scoreless first half saw Old Dominion (1-2) hold a 6-3 advantage in shots, and a 5-1 lead in corner kicks. In the 61st minute, Luchies found Swales who put one in the back of the net to give Loyola (2-1) a 1-0 lead.
For the game, each team took nine shots, while the Monarchs held a slight 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Old Dominion returns to the home pitch on September 9 taking on Campbell at 7 p.m.
