CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Old Dominion women's tennis team opened its fall season in the Wahoowa Invitational and had a stellar weekend. ODU split eight doubles matches, while winning all 17 singles matches over the three days.
"It was a great first weekend for this year's team," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla. "I was pleased to see just how ready we were to compete. Credit goes to the team for doing the work over the summer. Our singles were fantastic highlighted by Tanya's big win over the third-ranked player in the nation. We will take some time off to catch up on rest and academics before getting back to work."
Tatsiana Sasnouskaya, ranked 81st nationally entering the event, pulled the biggest win of the weekend with a 6-2, 6-2 win over third-ranked Daria Frayman of Princeton. She also scored wins over Anastasiya Komar of LSU (6-2, 6-2) and Michaela Kucharova of West Virginia 7-6, (7-4), 6-2.
Alexandra Viktorovitch, ranked 78th nationally entering the weekend, scored wins over Tatiana Lipatova of West Virginia (6-3, 6-1), Safiya Carrington of LSU (6-2, 6-2) and Maia Sung of Princeton (1-6, 6-3, 10-4).
The doubles tandem of Sasnouskaya and Sofia Johnson, ranked 44th in the preseason poll, went 2-1 winning over Ting-Pei Chang and Lipatova of West Virginia (6-1) and the duo of Carrington and Komar of LSU (6-3). This was after dropping a 6-4 decision to Frayman and Joyce of Princeton in day one.
Old Dominion now heads to Hilton Head Island, S.C. in two weeks for the Sea Pines College Tournament hosted by the University of Georgia.
