Annapolis, MD - The Old Dominion Sailing team travels to the Naval Academy for the Chesapeake Invite and Faye Bennett regattas this weekend. The Faye Bennett Regatta is the Singlehanded Conference Championship, with berths to Singlehanded Nationals, hosted at Old Dominion this fall, on the line.

At the Chesapeake Invite, sophomore helm Finn Ciszewski gets his first doublehanded start with senior crew Katie Barton, senior helm Parker Purrington is paired with sophomore crew Isabelle Kanach, and Freshman helm Tyler Brown is with Freshman crew Lindsey Kaufmann. In addition to the six starters, Freshmen Diogo Silva and Asia Acosta join the group as alternates. The Chesapeake invite looks to be a competitive event, with teams from Christopher Newport, Georgetown, Navy, St Mary's College of Maryland and Washington College. Purrington and Brown will look to capitalize on a top three finish last week at the Riley Cup in aiding the Monarch's this weekend.

The women's squad will send junior Elizabeth Gildea, sophomore Allison Jeanne Volk and Freshman Emma Friedauer to the Faye Bennett regatta, which is the Women's Singlehanded Conference Championship. Gildea, Volk and Friedauer will be competing against 15 other competitors from the Mid Atlantic conference, including four who qualified for the Women's Singlehanded Nationals last year. This highly competitive field will face light winds and what looks to be choppy conditions this weekend in Annapolis. Gildea placed seventh at this event last year and Volk finished 11th. The winner of the Faye Bennett, along with the champions from the four other conferences, will earn an automatic qualifying berth to Women's Singlehanded Nationals, at ODU this fall. The rest of the field will be selected by a selection committee with the announcement coming later this fall.
