RICHMOND, Va. – The No. 14 ranked Old Dominion Field Hockey team (5-1) extended their win streak to five matches and they are now 35-0 against Richmond with a 2-1 victory on Sunday at Crenshaw Field. Courtney Lynch scored the game winner for the Monarchs with 25 seconds left in the third period.
"It was another good away win for us against a team that played hard and fast," said ODU Head Coach Andrew Griffiths. "We created a ton of open attacks and had a lot of opportunities to win corners and take shots. We needed to get more outcomes and create some separation on the scoreboard. In the end we found a way to win the game, and we came back from a goal down, which is a very good sign."
The Spiders (3-2) got on the board first as Lindsey Frank scored on a corner just eight minutes into the match.
Delphine Le Jeune found the back of the net for ODU on a penalty stroke tying the score up with just over 10 minutes left to play in the half. Going into the half Richmond had outshot the Monarchs 4-3.
With 25 seconds remaining in the third period Emily Tammaro made a quick pass to Lynch who then gave Old Dominion a 2-1 advantage. That was all the Monarchs needed as they held on to defeat the Spiders.
Old Dominion outshot the Spiders 9-6 on the day.
ODU is back in action Friday, Sept. 16 as they host the Connecticut Huskies at 1 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
