NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion's home football opener against Virginia Tech on tonight is a sellout.
The Monarchs and Hokies open their season at 7 p.m. at S.B. Ballard Stadium in a game to be televised by ESPNU.
The game marks the debut of Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry, who was defensive coordinator at Penn State when ODU head coach Ricky Rahne was offensive coordinator.
Tailgate lots open at 3 p.m. and gates open at 5 p.m., a half hour earlier than usual.
S.B. Ballard Stadium's seating capacity is 21,944.
Entertainment and food will be available on Kaufman Mall, just across 49th Street south of the stadium, beginning at 3 p.m. There will be food vendors, a beer garden, and bounce houses and plenty of room for children to run around.
There will also be a giant-screen TV showing the best college football available. At 3:45 p.m., the Finns, a rock/country band from North Carolina, perform near the entrance to the Webb Student Center.
The football team holds its Monarch March beginning at 4:45 p.m., when players and coaches emerge from the front of Webb Center and walk to S.B. Ballard Stadium. The band and cheerleaders will also perform at 6:10 p.m. in front of Webb Center.
