GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Old Dominion women's soccer team concluded its three-game season opening road swing with a 3-0 loss on Sunday afternoon at East Carolina.
"This was a sore one," said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind. "We started well and then allowed a needless penalty kick which gave them a ton of momentum and we never really recovered."
East Carolina got on the board in the first half on a penalty kick by Abby Sowa at the 20-minute mark. A little over seven minutes later, Sydney Schnell found Isabella Gutierrez on a break away and she put the hosts up 2-0.
In the second half, Schnell gave the hosts a 3-0 lead on an unassisted goal at the 47-minute mark. ECU held a 15-8 advantage in shots.
"This is the first time this year we just didn't show up as a team and that's the disappointing aspect," Hind added. "We have some adversity and have to face that and find a way to come together and overcome it."
Old Dominion (0-3) returns to action by hosting Virginia Tech on Thursday night at 6 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
