NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's tennis team announced their 2022 fall schedule on Tuesday with five events, including a first-time appearance in South Carolina at historic Hilton Head Island.
Head Coach Dominic Manilla and the Monarchs will begin the fall at the Wahoowa Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. on Sept. 16-18. Last year in this event the Monarchs had five players go 2-1 in singles in a tournament that saw six teams ranked in the top 60 nationally compete.
After Charlottesville, the Monarchs will make their first appearance in the Sea Pines College Tournament hosted by the University of Georgia in Hilton Head, S.C. on September 30-October 2. This event will have the Monarchs going against the University of Georgia, Ole Miss, Charlotte and Furman.
October will have ODU in a pair of events they had success in during the 2021 fall season starting with the ITA All-Americans from October 1-9. Last season saw Yuliia Starodubtseva and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya win the doubles crown with wins over the No. 1, 15 and 29 ranked pairings.
The month winds down in Blacksburg at the ITA Regionals from October 20-24. Last year, Sasnouskaya and Starodubtseva advanced to the semifinals in singles and won this event in doubles to propel themselves into the final event of the season in San Diego. The ITA Fall Nationals will wind up the slate on November 2-4.
Old Dominion returns five players from last year's 21-7 team that won Conference USA for the second straight season and advanced to the NCAA Second Round. In that group includes a returning All-American in Sasnouskaya, a returning All-Conference selection in Alexandra Viktorovich and a returning All-Freshman team selection in Sofia Johnson.
"I'm excited to get another season going. We have an experienced core group of players returning to our team, and a hungry freshman class," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla. "Shahar Biran will serve as our team captain as we embark to compete for a third conference title."
