Field Hockey Picked Third In BIG EAST Preseason Poll

NEW YORK - The BIG EAST Conference announced its preseason All-Conference team and poll on Tuesday and Old Dominion had a pair selected to the squad.
 
Delphine Le Jeune and Marlon De Bruijne were picked to the preseason team as Old Dominion was selected third in the team poll behind Liberty and UConn.
 
Le Jeune was a unanimous selection to the preseason team after earning first team All-BIG EAST honors in 2021. She started all 18 games for the Monarchs, led the team in assists with six, second on the team in points (20) and goals with seven. Le Jeune led the Monarchs with six assists. She was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week once, earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Academic honors and named second team All-South Region and second team Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State.
 
De Bruijne started in 13 games last season and topped the team in points (28) and goals with seven. She was named First Team All-BIG EAST, First Team All-South Region, Second Team Synapse Sports All-American, Third Team NFHCA All-American. In BIG EAST play, De Bruijne recorded 12 goals, four assists for 28 points and had four game-winning goals. She recorded a hat trick against Quinnipiac and was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week once.
 
The Monarchs earned 40 points in the team poll to trail Liberty (48) and UConn (41). Old Dominion will host the 2022 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championships November 4-6 at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
 
ODU opens its season on Friday at William & Mary before heading to Boston College for a Sunday afternoon match.
