NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion University Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig announced on Monday a contract extension for men's tennis head coach Dominik Mueller. The new extension is for four years and will run through the 2026 season.

"Dominik Mueller has built ODU men's tennis into an annual conference title contender. ODU men's tennis is a model of consistency and has become nationally prominent and relevant very quickly," said Selig.

"As successful as our teams have been on the court under Dominik's leadership, they are equally as successful in the classroom and consistently ranked among our best performing academic teams at ODU. Dominik is a fantastic head coach who is producing champions on and off the court. We are fortunate to have Coach Mueller leading our program well into the future," he added.

Mueller is 87-45 in his six years at the helm of the program. His teams made the Conference USA Tournament finals in four of his six years, winning the title in 2018. That season, the Monarchs ended the year claiming victory in 13 of their last 15 matches, while outscoring their opponents 57-21 during that stretch. ODU also rode an 11-match win-streak into the NCAA Tournament, in which the Monarchs outscored their opponents 46-12.

"I couldn't be more excited to stay long term at ODU. The support we receive from our administration, campus and community is second to none and these are the environments you want to be a part of," said Mueller. "We have built a great program over the years, and I can't wait to lead this squad into our future in the Sun Belt Conference."

The Monarchs swept through the C-USA Tournament that year defeating UAB, Southern Miss and Florida Atlantic 4-0 apiece en route to their first C-USA title and first NCAA bid since 2007.

The Monarchs have earned nearly 30 All-Conference honors in Mueller's six years and have had a qualifier for the NCAA Championships in four of those six seasons. In 2021-22, Francois Le Tallec was the highest ranked player in the conference and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

His teams have always been among the leaders in team GPA as they've been named an ITA All-Academic squad in each of his years in Norfolk. During those six years, 23 players have earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. The Monarchs have been nationally-ranked at some point in each of his six seasons and have produced three conference players of the year along with four NCAA qualifiers in his tenure.

"This team and program have such a bright future and I'm certain we will achieve new heights. I want to thank President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D, Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig, Bruce Stewart and everybody else involved in this process in trusting me to keep leading these special student-athletes," Mueller added. "ODU and Hampton Roads is home and my wife and I couldn't ask for a better place to raise our three children. Go Monarchs!!!"
