NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion volleyball team was announced on Monday as a 2022 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and United State Marine Corps (USMC) Team Academic Award. The Monarchs finished in the top 20% of all NCAA Division I Women's teams to be named to the Academic Award Honor Roll.
"We are very proud of our team's efforts in the gym and in the classroom. Their work in the gym is appreciated on a regular basis, but the AVCA All-America Team Award recognizes their unseen work," said ODU Head Coach Fred Chao. "This is also the first time our student-athletes have managed the time stress of a typical competitive season, and they have excelled once again."
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. The accolade also honors teams who have matched their dedicated to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom.
A total of 1,213 teams among high school and colleges were recognized by the AVCA.
