NORFOLK, Va. -- Former Old Dominion women's soccer standout Kathryn Hill recently re-signed with the Rangers WFC of Scotland after a five-year run in England.
Hill returns to the club she played with prior to coming to Old Dominion. While with the Monarchs, she was a two-year standout earning All-Conference USA honors and All-Conference USA Academic Team awards in both seasons. She was also named to the Conference USA Honor Roll and earned C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medals.
Her college coach Angie Hind was ecstatic to hear of Hill returning to the Rangers and looking forward to following her this year. "Kathy was instrumental to laying the foundations of a wining culture here at ODU. Her impact as a player and captain in this team I just can't overstate," she said. "Ironically, I coached Kathy when she was first at the Rangers and obviously had a lot of respect for her qualities and potential and I was delighted she came to ODU."
Looking ahead to her first season back, Hind sees a bright future for Hill. "Now she has come full circle and with Rangers FC investing so heavily in their women's program, I think this is a great signing for them and also for Kathy," Hind said. "She has been a huge Rangers supporter also and so the chance to make a mark on a club that you hold so close to your heart is a dream come true for her. I am excited to see her impact at Rangers and hopefully make a claim to be in a future Scotland squad."
Hill signed with the Rangers WFC after a successful five years at Durham WFC in the FA Women's Championship in England. Hill made over 100 appearances during her time there and she also has experience playing for the Scotland U19 national team.
Thinking back on her time as a Monarch, Hill has fond memories and is proud of the championship won last fall. "I loved my time at ODU and felt that those two years gave me the chance to develop both as a player and an athlete and gain a lot of experience playing at a really competitive environment," she said. "I remain in touch with my former coaches and teammates at ODU and it's great to see how much the program has progressed since I was there and now to see them winning championships is just fantastic."
Her development with the Monarchs has guided her to Durham and now back to the Rangers. "I have been able to take that into my game at Durham and now on to Rangers. I am so excited to become a full-time professional footballer and the chance to play Champions league is obviously amazing and a dream I have always had."
