NORFOLK, Va. -- Head Coach Angie Hind and the Old Dominion women's soccer program announced their 2022 schedule on Monday with a 17-game slate as they sail into their first Sun Belt Conference season.
After opening with a home exhibition match against VCU on August 12, the Monarchs will play their first three games on the road to close out August. ODU will open the regular season at Auburn on August 18 at 7:30 pm EST. They'll return to the 757 for a match on August 25 when they head up Interstate 64 to tangle with the Tribe of William & Mary in Williamsburg at 7 p.m. Their August slate will end on the 28th facing East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. for a 5 p.m. start.
September begins with a pair of home matches around Labor Day weekend. On September 1, the Monarchs will host Virginia Tech and then host Longwood on September 4 with both matches starting at 6 p.m. On September 8, ODU will visit Richmond in a 5 p.m. kickoff and will close the non-conference slate at home hosting American on September 11 at 6 p.m.
The inaugural Sun Belt Conference slate for the women will begin in Lafayette, Louisiana facing the Ragin Cajuns of Louisiana on September 16 at 7 p.m., before heading to Harrisonburg for a matchup against James Madison on September 22 also at 7 p.m. ODU will host its first Sun Belt Conference game on September 25 when they tangle with Georgia Southern at 3:30 p.m.
October starts with a home match against the three-time Sun Belt Conference champions South Alabama on October 2 at 3 p.m., then a trip to Troy, Alabama to take on the Trojans of Troy at 7 p.m. on October 6. Coastal Carolina comes to the ODU Soccer Complex for an October 9 match at 1 p.m., before a trip to Boone, N.C. to tangle with Appalachian State at 6 p.m. on October 14. Arkansas State comes to Norfolk for a 7 p.m. match on October 20 then the Monarchs head to Atlanta for a noon kick on October 23 against Georgia State. The regular season closes on October 27 hosting Marshall at 7 p.m.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be in Foley, Alabama starting with the opening round on October 31. The quarterfinals will be on November 2, while the semifinals are on November 4. A champion will be crowned on November 6 with the finals and a bid to the 2022 NCAA Tournament to be decided.

"We believe this year's schedule is an exciting one as we make the step up to compete in the Sun Belt Conference by challenging ourselves with a very competitive non-conference slate. Our mindset is always to schedule tough, and I think this shows in our non-conference games. There are some great programs in the state of Virginia and every year we try to put ourselves against some of the best.
It's very exciting to open the season at SEC powerhouse Auburn and begin our home schedule by hosting Virginia Tech. Playing tough opponents in our non-conference slate will no doubt help prepare us for our first season in the new Sun Belt Conference. I have no doubt that this 14-team league, which will be split into East and West Divisions, with four additional cross-over games will be tough.
