IRVING, Texas - Old Dominion senior first baseman Matt Coutney earned the Conference USA Spirit of Service Award, C-USA announced on Tuesday.

The award honors student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport.

Coutney is a double major in management and leadership with a 3.45 GPA.  He delivers Mercy Meals to the downtown homeless of Norfolk, participated in reading programs with local elementary schools and helped with various homeless and veteran service organizations. He earned C-USA Academic Honor Roll every semester and was a four-time Dean's List honoree at ODU.

On the field, Coutney hit .376 on the season with a single-season school record 27 homers, which ranks third in the country. He added 18 doubles, scored 66 runs and drove in 70 on the year. He ranks second in the country with 185 total bases and his .808 slugging percentage is fifth in the nation.

He currently ranks third in the country in home runs and total bases and fifth in the nation in slugging percentage.
