ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Old Dominion senior golfer Jana Melichova is tied for the lead after the first round of the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional. Melichova shot a 2-under 69 to tie with Ela Anacona of Arkansas for the top spot.
"Jana played very well today," ODU head coach Mallory Kane said. "This is a hard course under perfect conditions, add in 20 mph wind and every shot is a test. Jana's ball striking was strong and her short game allowed her to shoot under par. We are excited for the start and look forward to tomorrow."
Melichova began her day with a pair of pars before a birdie on the third hole put her at 1-under. She remained there until she holed back-to-back birdies to begin the back nine and stretch to 3-under. She knocked in five-straight pars until a bogey on the 17th, her only one of the round, and ended with a par on the 18th to finish at 2-under.
The Pikovice, Czech Republic native led the field in Par 5 scoring average and was one of just four players to shoot under par.
Melichova begins round two tomorrow on the first hole at 8:55 a.m.
