Matt Coutney Named NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy Player of the Month

SAN ANTONIO – Old Dominion baseball senior first baseman Matt Coutney was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Dick Howser Trophy Player of the Month for April, the NCBWA announced on Wednesday.
 
Coutney hit .455 for the month of April, hitting 14 homers with 28 RBIs. He featured a stretch where he hit a homer in five-straight games and had three multi-home run games.
 
In a win at East Carolina, the Edmonton, Alberta native went 4-for-4 with a home run and a double and was 3-for-5 with a homer and five RBIs in a win at FIU. He had eight multi-RBI games and was twice named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week.
 
For the season, Coutney leads Conference USA with an ODU record 22 home runs and is fourth in the league with a .36batting average. 
 
The Monarchs hit the road this weekend to Southern Miss for a three-game series beginning on Friday.
