NORFOLK, Va. -- Coming off a tough 8-7 loss on Saturday night to eventual champion La. Tech, the Old Dominion Monarchs had three players named to the 2022 Conference USA All-Tournament team announced Sunday afternoon.
First baseman Matt Coutney, catcher Brock Gagliardi and outfielder Andy Garriola were honored on the All-Tournament squad after leading ODU to a 3-2 record in the event.
Coutney ended the tournament with the most hits (11) and tied for the most runs scored (8) as he hit 11-of-23 (.473) for the week with two doubles, two home runs and five RBIs. He opened the tournament with a 4-for-5 showing against Middle Tennessee State and had multi-hits in four of the five games.
Gagliardi topped all catchers with a .421 average (8-of-19) scoring six runs with two doubles, three home runs and a tournament best nine RBIs. He was 2-for-3 with two home runs in the second game against La. Tech on Saturday driving in four runs.
Garriola shared the tournament lead with Gagliardi hitting three home runs, second in the tournament driving in eight runs and had four of his six hits go for extra bases. He had three hits in the first game Saturday against La. Tech driving in three runs with a home run.
Old Dominion (41-17) will learn a potential NCAA Tournament spot on Monday as they'll have a watch party at noon at Cogans North. The NCAA Division I Baseball Selection Show airs Monday at noon on ESPN2.
