SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Old Dominion University senior golfer Jana Melichova capped off her incredible collegiate career tying for 13th at the NCAA Championships, as she shot a final round even par to finish four-over for the tournament.
"It's hard to describe how amazing this entire week has been for Jana. She's represented ODU so well and with such poise. The NCAA recognizes the top-15 players with an award at the end of the fourth round and Jana played well enough to be a part of that group," ODU head coach Mallory Kane said. "It's a very special award that represents the best in the country. Jana is the standard for ODU golf going forward. She has given so much to our program and we will forever be grateful for all her contributions on and off the course."
Melichova began the championship with a four-over 76 before coming back with a one-under 71 on day two. She shot a 1-over 73 on Sunday to qualify for the final round before today's even par finish.
The Pikovice, Czech Republic native began her day on the 10th hole and immediately birdied two of the first four holes to go two-under. She knocked another birdie on the 15th hole but a bogey on 16 set her back to two-under before a pair of pars finished her first nine of the day at two-under.
It was three pars to start the back nine for Melichova before her only bogeys of the day on the fourth and fifth holes. She was able to par out the rest of the way to finish at even par.
Melichova was the second highest group of five finisher in the country, finishing just behind Anna Morgan of Furman. Her 13th place finish is the best by a Conference USA golfer since Stephanie Connelly of UCF tied for 11th in 2009.
