SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Old Dominion senior Jana Melichova's collegiate career will continue one more day, as she made the cut and advanced to the fourth round of the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
"Today was nothing short of incredible. Jana absolutely played her heart out for ODU," Monarch head coach Mallory Kane said. "It is a historic achievement to qualify for the national championship so it's hard to describe what an accomplishment it is to qualify for the final day. She's had to play great round after round, day after day, dating back to regionals in Michigan to make it to this point."
The fourth round begins tomorrow morning and includes the top-15 teams and the top-nine individuals on non-advancing teams.
Melichova carded pars the first three holes today before a bogey on the fourth. She followed the bogey with four-straight pars before a birdie on the ninth hole to put her at even on the front nine. The Pikovice, Czech Republic native was solid on the back nine with eight pars and a lone bogey on the 16th hole.
"Jana has risen to the occasion every time and handled the pressure extremely well. I want everyone in Monarch Nation to know this is a memorable day for our entire university. We can all be proud of Jana! We can't wait to watch her compete one more time tomorrow. It will be a special day."
Melichova heads into the final round tied for 16th at four-over. She began the NCAA Championships on Friday with a four-over 76 but fired a one-under 71 on Saturday to put herself in contention to advance.
The final round for Melichova will begin at 3:30 p.m. EDT, as she'll be paired with Anna Morgan of Furman and Celina Sattelkau of Vanderbilt.
