CHAMPAIGN, ILL. -- Three Old Dominion tennis standouts learned on Sunday of their opening round matchups in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships which begin Monday at the University of Illinois.
Yuliia Starodubtseva will be the first representative to take the courts for ODU. Starodubtseva, seeded 9-16, will face Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Oklahoma State at 1:30 p.m. EDT. Sawangkaew is 19-2 on the year playing in the number two spot for Oklahoma State and is ranked 31st nationally. Starodubtseva is 30-5 on the year after repeating as Conference USA Player of the Year and is ranked 18th nationally.
Francois Le Tallec will follow her on the courts as he faces Arthur Fery of Stanford at 3:30 p.m. EDT. Fery, seeded 9-16, played in the number one slot for Stanford and sports a 21-7 record and is ranked 15th nationally. Le Tallec is 15-7 this year and earned the automatic bid from Conference USA as the highest ranked player coming in 54th.
On Tuesday, the doubles tandem of Starodubtseva and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya will take to the court as they were seeded 5-8. The duo will face Ana Paula Melilo and Kit Giluhur of North Florida in the round of 32. The North Florida duo is 19-3 on the year and are ranked 33rd in the nation. Starodubtseva and Sasnouskaya are ranked eighth nationally and sport a dazzling 32-6 record after earning the Conference USA automatic bid as the highest ranked tandem.
