SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Old Dominion senior Jana Melichova carded a 1-under 71 in Saturday's second round to put herself in position to advance in the NCAA Women's Golf Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club.

"Jana played great today," said ODU Head Coach Mallory Kane.  "The hole locations were very difficult and so birdies were hard to make.  She stayed patient and made some great putts when she had the opportunity.  We were hoping to move up the leaderboard and she has done just that."

After a bogey on the tenth hole, her starting hole on Saturday, she recorded three pars before a birdie on the 14th and a bogey on the 15th.  Melichova steadied herself with a run of eight pars in a row before carding birdies on the sixth and seventh holes to get her to 1-under-par on the day.

"By the time the afternoon wave finishes I expect she will be even higher up the scoreboard," Kane added.  "We will focus on resting this afternoon and getting ready for another great day tomorrow."

She tees off on Sunday for the third round at 11:30 a.m. EDT.  Following that round, the top 15 teams and the top nine players not on those teams will qualify for the final round of the championship on Monday.
