NORFOLK, Va. -- The 33rd-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team will host a pair of matches this weekend facing a long-time rival and a rematch of an earlier win.
Friday afternoon, the 59th-ranked Rams of VCU come to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. match. Two days later, ODU takes on Navy in a 1 p.m. rematch of a 5-2 ODU win on March 23.
ODU (13-6), winners of eight of its last nine matches, has two singles players and one doubles tandem in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. Yuliia Starodubtseva comes in at 22nd and leads the team in the spring with a 14-1 singles mark. Alexandra Viktorovich is currently 89th and 10-2 this spring. In doubles, Starodubtseva and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya are ranked fourth nationally with a 6-3 mark in the spring.
Joining Starodubtseva and Viktorovich in double figures this spring are Alesya Yakubovich (10-5), Sasnouskaya (12-5) and Sofia Johnson (12-7).
VCU, ranked 59th nationally, comes to Norfolk with a 14-4 record. Paola Diaz-Delgado leads the team in singles this spring with a 14-3 record and is ranked 77th nationally. In doubles, Laura Astudillo and Diaz-Delgado are 10-1 at number two, while Gabriela Davidescu and Shivani Manjanna are 9-7 at the top spot of the lineup. The Monarchs have won seven of the last eight meetings between the teams.
Navy is currently 19-3 on the year and has a Saturday match with Howard before coming to ODU. Meganna Komarraju, Stella Ribaudo and Kacey Moore all share the spring singles lead with 12 wins each. In doubles, the tandem of Komarraju and Katreina Corpuz leads the Midshipmen in spring wins with nine.
ODU won the doubles point against Navy on March 23, following that with four straight wins in singles to help take the 5-2 win.
The Monarchs will close the regular season at home on April 16 hosting Charlotte (10 a.m.) and future conference rival JMU (4 p.m.).
