Around the Horn
The Monarchs bounced back from a 13-3 loss in Friday's opener to win its Conference USA series at FIU. Andy Garriola hit a pair of home runs and drove in a career-high eight in Saturday's 14-7 win before ODU hit seven home runs on Sunday to win 18-5 in seven innings.

Carter Trice hit three home runs on Sunday and also drove in eight. Garriola left the yard for the third time in the series with his 37th career homer. In doing so, he joined a three-way tie with Tony Gsell and Josh Wright for the most home runs in a career at ODU.

Garriola (13), Trice (11) and Matt Coutney (nine) are 1-2-3 atop the C-USA home run leaderboard. Garriola is second in the nation in long balls, just one behind Virginia's Jake Gelof, and Trice ranks 16th nationally.

Additionally, Garriola leads the conference and is fourth in Division I with 44 RBIs. Trice leads the league with 35 runs scored, which is top-25 in the country.

The Monarchs lead C-USA in average (.318), doubles (71), homers (58), scoring (10.0), slugging (.596) and stolen bases (46). Old Dominion is well on pace to surpass last year's program-record mark of 105 homers.

D1Baseball recently named Noah Dean the top relief pitcher in the country. Dean is 2-0 this year and has not allowed a run on just two hits in 13 innings. He has 24 strikeouts (16.6 per nine innings) and an opposing batting average of .048.

Scouting East Carolina
The Pirates opened play in the American by taking two-of-three games at Cincinnati. Like the Monarchs, they dropped the opener 7-3 before rebounding with wins of 8-4 and 12-10.

ECU is hitting .267 as a team with 27 home runs. Lane Hoover tops the team in average (.383) and hits (41), and Alec Makarewicz is the team leader with six home runs and 24 RBIs.

C.J. Mayhue is expected to start on Wednesday and is 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA. He has 26 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .250 against Mayhue.

The Series
The two sides are meeting for the 65th time overall and the second time this year. ODU is 34-30 all-time and prevailed 9-8 in 10 innings at the Bud on March 15.

The Pirates jumped ahead 7-3 before a Brock Gagliardi solo shot in the fourth. The next inning, Trice tied the game with a three-run homer, his second of the day, before Garriola followed with a long ball to make it 8-7. ECU tied it up again in the sixth, and the score stayed knotted at 8-all until Tommy Bell drew a full-count bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the 10th.

What's Next?
The Monarchs host red-hot UTSA for three games this Friday through Sunday. The Roadrunners are coming off a home sweep of No. 23 Charlotte last weekend.
