NORFOLK, Va. – The 33rd-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team will open action on the 2022 Conference USA Championships at Middle Tennessee starting on Friday morning.

ODU, the top seed in the event, will take on the winner of UAB-Western Kentucky on Friday morning at 11 a.m. A win would put them into the semifinals on Saturday at 1 p.m., while the championship match is set for 11 a.m. Sunday morning.

The Monarchs finished the regular season 17-6 after a pair of 4-0 wins on Saturday against Charlotte and James Madison. In those matches, Sofia Johnson who was named C-USA Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, teamed with Alexandra Viktorovich for the doubles clinching points and started the Monarchs off in singles with easy wins.

On the year, Johnson is one of five Monarchs with double figures in singles wins. Yuliia Starodubtseva leads the team this spring with a 17-1 record, while Johnson is right behind with a 16-7 mark. Tatsiana Sasnouskaya sports a 14-5 ledger, while Alesya Yakubovich (13-5) and Viktorovich (10-2) follow behind.

In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Wednesday, the Monarchs were up one spot in the poll to 33rd. Individually, Starodubtseva jumped up to 17th, while Viktorovich was ranked 123rd and the doubles tandem of Starodubtseva and Sasnouskaya came in tenth.

"We have had a wonderful experience in Conference USA. The conference and their leadership provided competition and scheduling opportunities that resulted in several multiple-bid seasons to the NCAAs," said Manilla. "We owe a great deal to the conference for helping to grow our program to this point and we hope to go out the right way."
